John Kennedy
John W. Kennedy, son of George and Mary Kennedy, was born in Aberdenshire, Scotland, October 16, 1828. He was the tenth child of a family of 14. His parents belonged to the sturdy and industrious, and deeply religious class of Scottish peasantry. As a boy, he worked on a farm; $65 to $100 was the average amount earned in a year. On April 17, 1854, he left Scotland and came to Canada, later coming to the United States. He later purchased land, adding more as the years went on.
On August 25, 1865, he was married to Mrs. Emma Parker. To this union was born three children: William J., Wilbur J., who died in childhood, and Mary E.
They were members of the M.E. Church, located close to this home. The fall of 1890, they left the farm, moving to Shabbona, when they united with the Congregational Church. In five months they would have celebrated their Golden Wedding. On April 19, 1915, Mr. Kennedy quietly passed away, leaving his widow, a son, and daughter.
Mrs. Kennedy lived with her daughter, Mrs. John Storey and family until her death in the summer of 1918.
