Will
In the name of God, Amen.
I, Daniel H. Whitman of the town of Paw Paw in the County of DeKalb and State of Illinois being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament that is to say:
First: After all my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my estate, real and personal, I give bequeath and dispose of as follows, to-wit: the use of it all to my well beloved wife to educate and bring up the children while she remains my widow, if she marries or dies my children to have power to appoint an Administrator. Said Administrator to expend three hundred and fifty dollars $350. on the education of each of my two daughters, Annie and Alice or so much of the above mentioned sum as cannot be proven to have been expended in educating them at some Academy or High School and also that one hundred and fifty dollars $150. be given to each of said daughters when they arrive at the age of Twenty-one years. The rest of my real estate and personal property to be divided in equal shares among my sons and I hereby appoint my wife Melissa sole Executrix of this my last will and testament without bonds and with power to appoint an Administrator is she may think best I hereby revoke all former wills by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty three.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Daniel H. Whitman as for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at request of the said Daniel H. Whitman and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names and respective places of residence as witnesses.

Dec. 30th, 1863. Petition of Melissa H. Whitman for probate and will and Letters Testamentary filed, representing that Daniel H. Whitman, late of the County of DeKalb and State of Illinois, departed this life at Paw Paw in said County, on or about the 15th day of November, A. D., 1863, testate and seized and possessed of real estate consisting chiefly of one section
(640 acres of land) and 4 acres timber land in LaSalle County valued at $6,440.00 and of personal estate, all of said estate being estimated to be worth about $8,040..
Petitioner prays that Letters Testamentary may be granted to her.
