George N. Maxwell

George N. Maxwell. Principal of the Shabbona schools since January 1, 1883, was born in Assonnett, Bristol Co., Mass., Oct;. 30, 1847, and is a son of Rev. John S. and Lucy (Babcock) Maxwell, and removed with his parents to LaSalle County, this State, in 1868, settling near Leland. He was educated in Grundy Co., IL, at the common school.

In the winter of 1868-9 he commenced teaching school, and continued in that profession during the winter seasons for ten years, alternating with farm labor during the intervening summers; but since his removal to Shabbona his only occupation has been teaching. He was married in Highland, Grundy Co., IL, Oct. 4, 1871, to Miss Emma, daughter of Alonzo and Maria (Andrews) Spink, who was born at Blackberry, Kane Co., IL. They have had three children, namely: Alice, who died aged one year, Charles E., and Arthur W.

Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell are members of the Congregational Church of Shabbona.
